About our Emergency Response Team
AmeriCorps St. Louis hosts full-time National Service Volunteers for a unique and life-changing experience. Our 42-Member Emergency Response Team Members (ERT) serve for 11 months (mid-September to mid-August) alongside other passionate, hard-working people committed to making a real difference by preserving and restoring our environment as well as responding to natural disasters.

Environmental Stewardship
AmeriCorps St. Louis serves with partnering agencies to improve and maintain the health of various ecosystems and improve recreational access in Missouri, Illinois, and Montana. These projects include invasive species removal, natural habitat restoration, and timber stand improvement. Special projects include wildlife surveying, native planting, bridge building, and other recreation projects.

Disaster Response
Since 1994, AmeriCorps St. Louis has assisted communities in disaster relief in over 30 states and more than 65 of Missouri's 105 counties. In Missouri, we've responded to incidents such as state-wide flooding, ice storms, and tornadoes, including the 2011 Joplin tornado. On a national level, we've responded to incidents such as the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York City, Hurricane Katrina, and Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

Wildland Fire
AmeriCorps St. Louis is a registered volunteer fire department with the state of Missouri. All Members complete the core wildland firefighting training through the National Wildfire Coordinating Group. Upon completion of training, Members assist national, state, and local conservation and fire agencies in all types of wildland firefighting and prescribed burning techniques.
