AmeriCorps St. Louis Celebrates 30 Years of Service!
On April 27th our community came together to celebrate all we’ve accomplished over the past 30 years! If you missed out on the event, you can catch the highlights on our Facebook page, or check out photos here. Special thanks to our vendors: Dalie's Smokehouse, The GOAT Brand STL, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Insomnia Cookies, Ted Drewes Inc., Earthbound Beer, Soulard Mardi Gras, and Tommy Halloran for the music! And to the Wyman Center for being fantastic hosts!
At the event we were joined by some amazing speakers & presenters that shared memories from their time with AmeriCorps.
Remarks from Bruce Bailey & Kathleen Becherer, read by Jimmy Truschel (Click HERE to read their remarks)
Jerron Johnson, Missouri College Advising Corps
Jocelyn Dodge, United States Forest Service
Melissa Friel, Missouri State Emergency Management Agency
We were also able to present awards to some very deserving individuals, including:
The Fuel the Future Leadership Award, presented to Susan Farrington
Susan Farrington is a Natural History Biologist in the Ozark Region for the Missouri Department of Conservation. Formerly she was a Community Plant Ecologist with the Missouri Ozark Forest Ecosystem.
As one of AmeriCorps St. Louis’s longest standing project partners (nearly 15 years!), Susan has sparked passion in our Members for natural resources, ecology, fire, and public service. Her teaching skills and expertise in the field have helped propel many members into meaningful careers. From native & invasive plants, prescribed burns & wildfire responses, and glade ecology, Susan has made a significant impact on conservation efforts in the Ozarks. She makes our Members feel at home and cared for, and never fails to bring them chocolate out in the field, and we are extremely grateful for all of her support of AmeriCorps St. Louis.
We were joined by Gary Budoor from the Missouri Community Service Commission to present several Presidential Volunteer Service - Lifetime Achievement Awards to our alumni! This honor recognizes individuals who have completed 4,000+ hours of community service.
